Fibromyalgia is one of the most common causes of chronic pain in the United States. It’s estimated that there are more than 5 million confirmed diagnosed patients, with many patients who don’t even realize they have it.

We are still trying to figure out what causes Fibromyalgia. We do know that it can cause chronic, deep pain that’s often described as being all-over, radiating, shooting, and tender. As with any chronic pain condition, the sheer fact that patients suffer with it on a daily basis causes significant psychological drain, emotional depletion and often leads to fatigue and depression. Even worse, most people do not understand fibromyalgia and there is a negative stigma associated with it.

Most recently, famous musician and talent, Lady Gaga has brought more attention to the disease state. She actually took significant time off of her career because of her suffering from Fibromyalgia. In her documentary on Netflix, “Five Foot Two”, we see how much suffering she has endured due to the condition, but we also see some of the treatment she undergoes.

Most notably, she undergoes Trigger Point Injections under Ultrasound Guidance, and Platelet Rich Plasma Injections. These are treatments that are done EVERYDAY here at Pennsylvania Pain & Spine Institute, as we believe in using the most advanced therapies for treatment of all pain conditions.

At Pennsylvania Pain & Spine, we also do not overlook any diagnosis, and empathize with all of our patients, as we truly understand the burden of chronic pain.

Here is Dr. Kelly performing a platelet rich plasma injection on one of his patients. For more information or to find out how we can help you better manage your Fibromyalgia, call us today at 215-395-8888.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Gugger since my back surgery in 2016 where I had 9 vertebrates fused and a pelvic fusion which means I have rods coming up from my pelvis to my spine and on top of all this I have fibromyalgia so I have chronic pain.Dr. Gugger is the most compassionate, caring and skilled doctor that I’ve ever come to know.
